In 1960 (Republic of China Year 49), Wu Anquan, an officer of the Taipei YMCA, went to the United States for research. Upon returning on July 1st, with the approval of the YMCA board of directors, he invited fifteen business elites to serve as initiators. After three preparatory meetings, the first meeting was held in January of the following year (1961). Wu Jinchuan, General Manager of Chang Hwa Bank, gave a presentation, reporting on his research trip to the United States and Japan, sent by the ICA, where he witnessed firsthand the importance that the US and Japan placed on business management research. This received a warm response. After the second and third preparatory meetings, the "Taipei International Business Management Club" was established on May 5th, 1961 (Republic of China Year 50). The first and second presidents were Mr. Lin Heyin of Dongyuan.
Subsequently, the Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung branches were established. On February 16, 1973 (Republic of China Year 62), Wu Jinchuan, then president of the Taichung branch, initiated the establishment of a national federation to enhance fellowship, communication, cooperation, and association development. Wu Jinchuan was elected chairman and continued to contribute to the IMC until the federation was officially registered.
On August 1, 1995 (Republic of China Year 84), the Republic of China International Business and Management Research Society Federation was registered with the Ministry of the Interior, and Mr. Chung Lien-tsai served as its first chairman.
